2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA and 2018 BRZ tS Unveiled

Subaru today has revealed two new limited edition models: the 2018 WRX STI Type RA and 2018 BRZ tS. Both are performance focused derivatives and each vehicle is limited to 500 units.
Immediately identified by an exclusive Cherry Blossom Red accent around both the front mesh grille and new rear bumper cover, the new WRX STI Type RA (“Record Attempt”) comes standard with a carbon fiber roof panel, a carbon fiber pedestal wing and lightweight BBS 19-inch forged alloy wheels shod with 245/35R19 Yokohama Advan Sports tires. There’s also WRX STI Type RA badge on the rear deck lid, while the exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, a roof-mounted shark fin antenna and STI fender badges now come in a black finish. An STI front underspoiler has also been added for better stability at high speeds.
Beneath the skin, the model is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged BOXER engine, delivering 310 horsepower (231 kilowatts), which is around 5 hp more over the standard WRX STI. The extra power output comes courtesy of STI-specified new cold air intake, a high flow performance exhaust, beefier pistons, and a remapped ECU. The engine is backed by an advanced six-speed transmission that features a revised 3rd gear ratio paired with a short throw shifter. The car also boasts an optimized suspension with Bilstein dampers for both axles and an STI-tuned Vehicle Dynamics Control system to boost stability.
The interior of the WRX STI Type RA welcomes Recaro performance design front seats with red bolsters and stitching as well as an embossed STI logo on the head restraints. The steering wheel is wrapped in Ultrasuede, while signature red stitching and accent trim is visible throughout the cabin. Push-button start with Keyless Access is also standard equipment. Each of the 500 WRX STI Type RA has been individually numbered with a plaque mounted on the center console.
The 2018 BRZ tS (tuned by STI) delivers the highest level of “fun to drive” through greater flexibility, better control and stability. The track-focused coupe features a more aggressive look with an exclusive STI manually adjustable rear carbon fiber wing. The car is also adorned with an exclusive Cherry Blossom Red accent around the front grille and unique rear bumper cover as well as the official BRZ tS badge at the rear. The fog lights have been removed and replaced with STI fog light covers.
The 2018 BRZ tS boasts STI-tuned front and rear SACHS dampers and coil springs, flexible V-braces as well as new draw stiffeners are added to the chassis and sub-frame to improve steering response. For the first time ever a BRZ will come equipped with 18-inch lightweight wheels, a lightweight STI-branded set wrapped in 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for superior grip and quicker turn-in. Stopping comes from Brembos brakes.
Inside, the 2018 BRZ tS gets black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting red stitching and accents throughout the interior, including door and dash panels, knee pads, steering wheel, shifter and emergency brake boots. The BRZ tS also comes standard with red front seat belts and a frameless interior rear view mirror.
Both the 2018 WRX STI Type RA and BRZ tS will be available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl and will arrive on the market in the first quarter of 2018.
