2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Revealed, Officially the fastest production car in the world – Video
After numerous teaser images and videos, Dodge has finally unveiled the long-awaited Challenger SRT Demon.
Visually, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is the widest Challenger ever and according to the company first-ever, factory-production muscle car with wide-body fender flares. The flares have been designed to amplify the Demon’s menacing stance as well as to make room for wider tires with concealed attachments.
Although it shares the architecture with the 707-hp 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI Hellcat V-8, the Demon is not simply a Hellcat engine with more boost. It features more than 50 percent different components compared with the Hellcat. Among the changes are: larger 2.7-liter supercharger displacement instead of 2.4, increased boost pressure (14.5 psi of boost versus 11.6), higher rpm limit raised from 6,200 to 6,500 rpm, two dual-stage fuel pumps versus one and larger induction air box with three sources of intake air. In addition, the Demon also boasts a high-speed valvetrain, strengthened connecting rods and pistons, and improved lubrication system.
The heart of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is the aforementioned supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V-8 delivering 840 horsepower. The performance data is impressive: from a standing start, it only takes 2.3 seconds to reach a speed of 0-60mph (96 km/h); and less than 10 seconds required in the quarter-mile run, which makes the Demon the fastest ¼-mile car in the world.
The Challenger SRT Demon comes equipped with a set of Nitto NT05R street-legal, drag-race tires, which are specifically designed and developed exclusively for the Demon. The drag tires are mounted on lightweight 11×18-inch wheels, with each tire measuring 12.6 inches wide.
The Challenger SRT Demon is the first-ever, street-legal factory-production car designed to run on 100+ unleaded high-octane fuel, which is readily available at select gas stations, specialty shops and drag strips. The Demon is also the world’s first production car to lift the front wheels at launch and set the world record for longest wheelie from a standing start by a production car at 2.92 feet, certified by Guinness World Records.
Production of the Challenger SRT Demon starts later this summer, and only 3,000 vehicles for the US and 300 vehicles for Canada will be built, while the first deliveries will begin this fall.
