Video – Braided carbon wheels for the Porsche 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series has received a set of braided carbon fiber. Thus the Porsche has become the world’s first vehicle manufacturer to offer lightweight wheels with braided carbon fiber.
Besides the innovative wheels weigh around 8.5 kilograms less than standard alloy wheels, which is a reduction of 20 per cent, they are at the same time 20 per cent stronger. The new rims are also optimized for absorbing longitudinal and lateral forces, while the lower rotating masses mean more spontaneity both in acceleration and braking. And the final result is increased driving dynamics and driving pleasure.
Made entirely from carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), the wheel is comprised of two components: the center, made from carbon fabric, and the base, made from braided carbon fiber. According to Porsche, the new technology offers some advantages over the more conventional method of manufacturing, such as increases rigidity. The new carbon wheel is made from a total of 18 kilometres carbon fiber or eight square metres of carbon-fiber fabric.
With a starting price of EUR 15,232 including VAT, the new carbon wheels will be available as an option for the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series in the dimensions of 9 J x 20 for the front axle and 11.5 J x 20 for the rear axle.
